Update: Campus safety

Today shortly after midnight, Louisiana Tech police were notified of a Facebook post concerning the threat of a shooting at both Louisiana Tech University and Grambling State University.

Chief Randal Hermes reported the threat to the Louisiana State Police, whose intelligence unit then began the investigation of the threat.

At the same time, Ruston Police Department and the Tech Police Department visited the subject’s apartment and found no weapons in the apartment. The subject said his Facebook account was hacked, and the threatening message was sent from the hacker.

Local officers determined that there was no credible threat at this point.

Officers – including the GSU Police, Tech Police, Ruston Police, and the Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office – remain on alert.

The safety of our campus community is our top priority. We will have extra police presence on campus today.

Please keep alert and notify police immediately if any suspicious behavior or activity is observed.

Thank you for your attention at this time. We will continue to update the campus as we are able.
