🥶 Winter Weather Closure update – 01/28/2026

While conditions in Ruston continue to improve, significant power outages and roadway challenges remain in our surrounding area. Campus will return to normal operations Friday though classes will not resume until Monday, Feb. 2. Employees unable to return to work safely should communicate directly with their supervisor.

Students, check Canvas for class-specific updates. We do not want this extended weather event to impact your academic progress and success. Use this extra time to study and further your understanding and preparedness for your return.

For those ready to get out of the house, the Lady Techsters will play Kennesaw State in the Thomas Assembly Center on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

🥶 Winter Weather Closure update – 01/26/2026

Our area continues to be under an extreme cold warning with significant ice accumulation on the roadways. To ensure a safe return to campus for our students, faculty, and staff, Louisiana Tech University will remain closed through Wednesday, Jan. 28. Tuesday’s temperatures will allow for some roadway melt but below-freezing temperatures overnight will likely result in iced roads.

For those who remain on campus, Tech Table will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The Lambright Center will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

We appreciate our Louisiana Tech Police Department as well as our facilities,  food service, housing, and Lambright teams for serving campus so ably throughout this weather event.

If circumstances allow, students are encouraged to check Canvas for any updates from professors. We do not want this extended weather event to impact your academic progress and success. Use this extra time to study and further your understanding and preparedness for your return.

Winter Weather Operations

Given the winter storm warning and forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS), classes will be canceled Thursday and Friday. Even if we do not experience impacts on our campus, beginning at noon tomorrow roadways could become treacherous to our north and west—including roadways traversed by a significant number of our students, faculty, and staff.

Essential staff who need to be on campus for work will be notified by their supervisors. The university will provide guidance for essential employees required to work and instructions for recording leave for the weather closure.

The following services will remain available for students:

Tech Table will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  and 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

The Lambright Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Please continue to monitor campus communications through email, social media, and the ERT website at https://ert.latech.edu/.

Classes canceled, campus open today

Due to severe weather and power outages, classes are canceled today, Wednesday, April 10. Food services and other campus amenities will remain open. Staff unable to report to campus should coordinate with their immediate supervisor.

Normal operations will resume on Thursday, April 11.

Classes remote, administrative operations normal after 1 p.m. tomorrow

While major roadways are mostly navigable, dangerous driving conditions remain on rural and local streets as well as throughout campus sidewalks and parking lots. As a result, classes will be remote all day Thursday, January 18. The remainder of campus operations will return to normal at 1 p.m. Thursday and we expect normal operations Friday.

Faculty are encouraged to use remote learning tools for class instruction during the inclement weather event. Classes are not to be considered canceled. Faculty will remain flexible with students due to weather conditions each student may encounter during this time.

University offices will open at 1:00 p.m. Employees unable to report to work should contact their supervisor. The Payroll Office will provide revised guidance for those unable to return tomorrow.

Food Services will open Tech Table at 10:00 a.m., and the remaining food service options will begin normal operations at noon tomorrow.

The Lambright will open at 10:00 a.m. tomorrow and will return to normal operating hours for the rest of the day.

Winter weather closure – 14 January 2024

Given the winter storm warning and forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS) for today through Wednesday, the campus will be closed through Wednesday. Classes will resume on Thursday.

This includes operations for Barksdale and the Academic Success Center in Bossier City.

Essential staff who need to be on campus for work will be notified by their supervisors. The Payroll Office will provide guidance for essential employees required to work and instructions for recording leave for the weather closure.

The NWS indicates we will experience dangerously cold conditions beginning today through the middle of the week. There is potential for wintry precipitation across the area later today through Monday night. Expect moderate to minor travel impacts from snow, sleet, and freezing rain.

Please stay off the roads unless you must travel, and use caution on sidewalks and steps outdoors.

Though the campus is closed, some services will be open for students who remain on campus.

Tech Table will be open from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. today, closed Monday for MLK, and open Tuesday and Wednesday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.
