Winter weather – classes and campus operations normal

Based on the latest update from the National Weather Service, the winter weather expected to impact much of south Louisiana beginning tonight is not expected to impact travel or infrastructure at Louisiana Tech or in our commuting area, though we may see flurries or a light dusting of “dry” powder. Classes and campus operations will continue as scheduled. Students who have traveled home to affected areas are encouraged to monitor local weather forecasts to ensure a safe return to Ruston.

Winter weather – operations normal

While winter weather is expected to impact much of south Louisiana beginning Monday evening, winter precipitation is unlikely in our area. We are monitoring this week’s weather forecast in consultation with the National Weather Service. Although sustained freezing temperatures are expected, normal travel conditions are anticipated along the I-20 corridor. Students who have traveled home to affected areas are encouraged to monitor local weather forecasts to ensure a safe return to Ruston. We will provide an update tomorrow as we continue to monitor the forecast.

Winter Weather Operations

Given the winter storm warning and forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS), classes will be canceled Thursday and Friday. Even if we do not experience impacts on our campus, beginning at noon tomorrow roadways could become treacherous to our north and west—including roadways traversed by a significant number of our students, faculty, and staff.

Essential staff who need to be on campus for work will be notified by their supervisors. The university will provide guidance for essential employees required to work and instructions for recording leave for the weather closure.

The following services will remain available for students:

Tech Table will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.  and 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

The Lambright Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Please continue to monitor campus communications through email, social media, and the ERT website at https://ert.latech.edu/.
